This fluidity is now a celebrated aspect of modern queer culture, largely thanks to trans advocacy. To speak of the transgender community today is to speak of a community under siege. In recent years, transgender rights have become a political battleground. While mainstream LGBTQ+ culture has shifted toward celebration (corporate Pride parades, increased representation in media like Pose and Heartstopper ), trans people are facing a legislative avalanche.

While history often sanitizes their roles, the truth is that it was trans sex workers and drag queens who threw the first bricks at the police, sparking a global liberation movement.
